3 Step Process Guide
Design process typically takes 2-5 weeks depending on scope of work.
1). Discover
We start with a call or video meeting to get aligned. I learn about your business, audience, goals, and the opportunity your brand needs to capture.
Whether you’re looking for a focused logo or a more complete brand identity, this step ensures we’re building on a clear, strategic foundation.
2). Design
I translate strategy into visuals through concept exploration and refinement.
From a single distinctive mark to a fully developed visual system, each direction is crafted to connect with your audience and stand apart in your space. At key checkpoints, we’ll review progress together—typically over a video call—so I can walk you through the thinking and gather your feedback in real time.
3). Deliver
Once finalized, I prepare everything for launch—organized, polished, and ready to use.
Depending on your needs, this can include anything from professional logo files to a complete set of brand guidelines and assets—giving you the tools to show up consistently and confidently.
Industry QUESTIONS
-
Many people use these terms interchangeably, but they're very different.
A logo is a symbol or wordmark that identifies your business.
A brand identity is the complete visual system surrounding that logo, including typography, color palettes, photography direction, illustrations, icons, graphic elements, and usage guidelines.
The strongest brands succeed because every visual element works together consistently.
-
For most businesses, yes.
A logo is an important starting point, but it represents only one piece of your overall brand. Without supporting typography, colors, imagery, graphic elements, and guidelines, businesses often end up looking inconsistent across websites, marketing materials, packaging, and social media.
A complete brand identity creates a system rather than a single graphic. It provides consistency, improves recognition, and makes future marketing much easier because every design decision has already been established.
If your business plans to grow, investing in a complete identity from the beginning often saves time and money compared to rebuilding your brand later.
-
A memorable brand is much more than a logo.
Strong brand identities include:
Typography
Color palette
Graphic elements
Photography style
Illustration
Icons
Patterns
Brand guidelines
Together these elements create recognition across every customer interaction.
-
A brand identity is much more than a logo. It's a complete visual system that helps customers recognize and remember your business wherever they encounter it.
Depending on your project's needs, a brand identity may include:
Primary and secondary logos
Color palette
Typography system
Brand strategy and positioning
Iconography
Illustration or custom graphics
Photography direction
Brand patterns or textures
Social media assets
Brand guidelines
File packages for print and digital use
Every project is customized to the client's goals, but the objective is always the same: create a cohesive identity that remains consistent across every platform.
-
Every project is different, but most brand identity projects are completed within 3–6 weeks depending on the scope of work and the speed of client feedback.
The process typically includes:
Discovery and strategy
Research
Creative exploration
Concept presentation
Refinement
Final artwork
Brand guidelines and file delivery
Larger projects involving illustration, packaging, additional collateral, or expanded brand systems may require additional time.
Throughout the project, I maintain regular communication so clients always know what stage we're in and what's coming next.

Choosing a brand identity designer is one of the most important decisions you'll make when building or evolving a business. Your brand is often the first impression customers have of your company, and a thoughtful identity can influence trust, recognition, and long-term growth.
With countless designers, agencies, and AI tools available today, knowing what to look for can be difficult. Here are the factors I recommend considering before hiring a brand identity designer.
-
A beautiful portfolio is important, but it shouldn't be the only deciding factor.
Ask yourself:
Can this designer explain why they made their design decisions?
Do they solve business problems or simply create attractive visuals?
Do their projects look different from one another, or do they all follow the same style?
A strong brand identity should reflect the client's personality—not the designer's.
-
Some warning signs include:
Jumping straight into logo concepts without research
Offering dozens of random concepts without explaining strategy
Following design trends instead of your business goals
Delivering only a logo with no supporting brand system
Limited communication throughout the project
A successful branding project should feel collaborative rather than transactional.
Once a design direction is approved, further structural changes may require a new phase of work.
-
Many businesses believe standing out comes from using brighter colors, more elaborate logos, or following the latest design trends.
In reality, memorable brands are built through clarity, consistency, and strategic positioning.
-
Even the best-designed identity won't succeed if it's used inconsistently.
Maintaining consistent colors, typography, messaging, imagery, and layouts across websites, packaging, advertising, and social media strengthens customer recognition over time.
-
Many startups assume enterprise branding is only relevant for billion-dollar companies.
In reality, enterprise branding principles are often most valuable during the earliest stages of growth..

Late payments may pause project progress.
-
Absolutely.
Although I'm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, I work with clients across the United States and internationally.
Most branding projects are completed through video meetings, email, and collaborative online tools. This allows us to maintain close communication without requiring in-person meetings.
Whether you're located across town or across the country, you'll receive the same thoughtful process, collaborative experience, and attention to detail throughout the project.
-
Yes—and startups are some of my favorite clients.
Building a thoughtful brand identity early gives new businesses a stronger foundation for growth. Rather than simply creating a logo, I help startups establish a complete visual identity that communicates credibility, differentiates them from competitors, and remains consistent as the company grows.
Having worked on both emerging brands and nationally recognized companies, I understand how to create identity systems that are flexible enough to evolve without losing recognition.
Whether you're launching your first business or preparing for rapid growth, investing in branding early can prevent costly redesigns later.
-
While many of my clients are based in Cincinnati and throughout Ohio, I also collaborate remotely with businesses across the United States through video meetings and online collaboration tools.
Whether you're down the street or across the country, my process remains the same: strategic, collaborative, and focused on building brands that last.
-
Clients choose to work with me because they want the strategic thinking often associated with larger agencies while enjoying the direct collaboration and flexibility of working with an independent designer.
Every project receives personal attention from discovery through final delivery, resulting in brand identity systems that are distinctive, practical, and built to grow with your business.
